Provides Power over Ethernet over the structured cabling between a device, such as a WAP (Wireless Access Point), VoIP (Voice over IP) telephone, Video camera or even LED lighting. IEEE is the standards body that defines the requirement, interface and signalling specification. PoE standards define power levels and delivery from a PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment) across the structured cabling to a PD (Powered Device). The PSE may just supply power or may be delivering both Ethernet and Power such as a PoE Switch.
Examples include: IEEE 802.3af standard which was ratified in 2003 and supported up to 12.95W to a device at 350mAdc per pair on 2 pairs. In 2009 IEEE802.3at PoEP (PoE+) could support 25.5W to a device at 600mAdc per pair on 2 pairs. In 2017 IEEE802.3bt version emerged to deliver up to 71W of power at the PD (Powered Device) over 4 pairs.
