For all CommScope SYSTIMAX Designers, Consultants & Customers involved in Data Center projects. The student is expected to already be experienced in SYSTIMAX Infrastructure Design and have taken the SP8800 SYSTIMAX Data Center Fundamentals course, which can be considered an introduction to Data Center Design.
The ideal pre-requisite for this course is qualification in SP3321 SYSTIMAX Design and Engineering but it is not mandatory as it’s a useful fundamentals course for non-design students. For those about to be involved in Data Center design or specification then the ideal order and combination of courses will be: SP3321 D&E is the suitable pre-requisite to SP8800 Data Center Fundamentals. SP8810 Data Center Design and Engineering course then builds upon SP8800 and provides the student with the next level of design detail. The SP8820 Data Center Solutions provides a detailed look at SYSTIMAX solutions and their application in a Data Center environment. If all 4 courses are current then the student is recognized as a Data Center Specialist in the CommScope partner base.
- Review SYSTIMAX products and solutions specific to Data Centers
- Understand the considerations associated with Data Center Power, Cooling, and Security
- Know the trends in Data Center Technology
- Look in detail at Data Center Architectures
- Planning for 10G and beyond
- Understand the place for intelligence in the Data Center
This course starts with an overview of Data Center Solutions and moves quickly on to Infrastructure considerations including ‘green’ initiatives that are becoming so important in today’s Data Center designs along with a detailed look at thermal management. Data Center Technologies includes the latest in trends, server and storage hardware and how these and Convergence technologies address the trends. Data Center Architectures provides a detailed look well beyond that of the SP8800 course looking at Direct Connect, Top of Rack, Zone, Unified Fabric and other cabling architecture concepts. The course then covers Planning for 10Gbps and beyond and is completed with a look at the increasingly important ‘Intelligent Data Center’. SYSTIMAX Data Center Solutions are covered in the SP8820 course.
Topics in the SP8810 include:
- Data center solutions – CommScope”s SYSTIMAX solutions for the Data Center, standards and performance levels, challenges including Density, Rapid deployment and Carbon footprints.
- Infrastructure Considerations – Power Architectures, Power efficiency, Tier 1 through IV. Cooling Infrastructure Architectures and Cooling Efficiency good practices. Cooling Solutions – CRAC, CAHA, CRAH, IRAH. The practical physics of airflow, the impacts around cabinets, ASHRAE standards and the impact of humidity, the 10 steps to improve Data Center cooling. Green initiatives, Why go Green? Multiple level energy efficiency, reduction goals, “its not just electrical consumption”, IEEE 802.3az , EEE and Wol.
- Data Center Technology Trends, Managing content, Cost of Ownership, Server, Storage and Convergence technologies such as Matrix, Unified, Virtualization, SAN & NAS, FC/IP Fusion, FC0E and iSCSI, Ethernet CEE, Fabric Protocol and system implementations
- Data Center Architectures – Direct Connect “any to any without VLAN’s, ToR Top of Rack, Zone Distribution and Unified Fabric, Zone Architecture, physical layout, Access equipment, cable path routing and design, Physical media choices, IC and CC design. The concept of pre-terminated solutions, specify, design and implement the pre-terminated copper InstaPATCH Cu and Fiber InstaPATCH 360 solution
- Planning for 10G and beyond – 10GBASE-T 7 SFP+, LOM, Transceiver technologies for Data Centers, 40G and 100G, IEEE 802.3ba and the multitude of interfaces including 40G/100G Ethernet Cu.
- Intelligence in Data Ceneter Applications – The case for Intelligent Data Centers, ITIL, iPatch and its support in Data Centers.
You will study this course online in a self-paced format. The course is made up of a number of webcast lessons and online multiple choice assessments giving immediate feedback. It is supported by a number of downloadable documents.
Any level of pass in the accumulative overall assessment score.
