This course is for anyone involved in PON networks from sales engineers through to consultants. It looks at the design structure of Passive Optical Networks and discusses the technology and explores the potential markets where it will provide the greatest benefits not only in cost saving but also in practicality.
The ideal pre-requisite for this course, should you not be very familiar with fiber optics is the CommScope course SP4400 – Enterprise Fiber Solutions. If you anticipate that much of your work will include outdoor networks, the SP4410 – Outside Plant Fiber Design & Engineering course is highly recommended as well.
- Provide an overview of Passive Optical Networks
- Provide instruction in PON cabling system design and Bill Of Material (BOM) generation
- Provide high-level design training for CommScope partners
- Serves as PON Consultant certification training for CommScope partners
- PON Benefits
- PON Theory
- PON Design
- Active and passive components
- Splitter technology
- Different performance alternatives of EPON and GPON solutions
- Security advantages
- Network administration of PON networks
- Sample scenarios of typical PON projects
- Building BOMs (Bill of materials)
- Alternative architectures
- Long term benefits CAPEX and OPEX
You will study this course online in a self-paced format. The course is made up of a number of webcast lessons and a single online multiple choice assessment giving immediate feedback. The course content is supplemented by some PDF support material. It is highly recommended that the student augment their learning with real world design and installation experience, preferably with the help experienced colleagues or mentors.
Will require any level of pass in the accumulative overall assessment score.
If you have an interest in passive optical components in communication networks, specification, termination, cabling in or between buildings in any capacity and need to understand the principals, then this course is for you. Even if you are unlikely to ever physically do any practical work in your current job role, understanding what is involved is also very important to help assess timings in a project.
You will receive a course certificate that may be self-printed.
